When you think of bullying, you probably think of one kid punching another, or one kid saying something mean to the other. However, now that kids are almost constantly communicating digitally, a lot of bullying happens online, through texts and Emails.
This is called Cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a big problem now that kids have their own little bubble of technology that reveals their lives in ways that other people don’t usually see.
Since the cyberbullies can’t see who they are bullying, they don’t see how what they say affects people. For example, if someone says something mean to the other, that might kid starts crying. The bully may realize that what they said was very mean, and might say something nicer to the other kid.
Cyberbullying can be an easy way to embarrass someone by posting unflattering pictures and messages about the person online for others to see. It is also hard to get away from, unless you stop technology all together, which many kids will not do, even if they are bullied through their technology.
Kids should tell a trusted adult when they get bullied. Cyberbullying is a big problem, and many people are trying to stop it.
Overall, bullying through technology can be very harmful in many different ways. Cyberbullying can be just as harmful or even more so than verbal and physical bullying.
